Notice on Issuing the National Essential Medicines List (2026 Edition)

To the Health Commissions, Traditional Chinese Medicine Bureaus, and Disease Control Bureaus of all provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:
In order to implement the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, consolidate and improve the national essential medicines system, and in accordance with the Basic Healthcare and Health Promotion Law, the Pharmaceutical Administration Law, and other legal provisions, the National Health Commission has organized an update and revision of the National Essential Medicines List (2018 Edition) and formulated the National Essential Medicines List (2026 Edition). It is hereby issued to you and shall take effect from September 1, 2026.
Local health administrative departments at all levels (including traditional Chinese medicine and disease control authorities) are requested to strictly follow the requirements of the Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Improving the National Essential Medicines System (Guo Ban Fa [2018] No. 88), take the lead in implementing the National Essential Medicines List (2026 Edition), and promptly summarize and report any issues encountered during implementation to the Department of Pharmaceutical Policy of the National Health Commission.
